The Role
Together is an amazing place to work. And it’s not just because we’re one of the UK’s oldest and most respected mental health charities. It’s because we put the people who use our services at the heart of everything we do – supporting and enabling them to take control of their lives and make a positive contribution to the community.
The Southwark Wellbeing Hub is an innovative and fast paced community support service that Together has delivered since 2015. We support people to navigate local options of support and to be linked with specialist services which can meet their needs. Our aims are to support people to make informed decisions; to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in Southwark and to support those with mental health needs to manage their wellbeing.
The Hub will be launching a new pilot project in Spring 2021 to provide more and better mental health support to the Black African, Black Caribbean and minority ethnic groups in Southwark. The Covid-19 crisis has impacted everyone is society but it is clear that it has had a disproportionate impact on people of Black ethnicity.
The project will provide culturally appropriate and practical support to help people to engage with opportunities in their community that will lead to long term mental health, physical health, social and economic benefits.
This position is a part time (15 hours per week) Hub Support Coordinator to deliver this pilot project on fixed term contracts for a 12 month period, with the possibility of extension.
The role of Hub Support Coordinator is there to bridge the gaps between statutory, health, community and voluntary services and to provide personalised support to anyone with a concern about their own or someone else’s mental wellbeing in Southwark.
The Hub Support Coordinators will provide focussed outreach support in community settings to better understand the needs of the black and ethnic minority community in Southwark and reach more people who would benefit from support. Support is provided through a blend of one-to-one basis for up to 12 weeks, signposting & connecting with community resources and through group support.
This role will predominantly be provided between the hours of 9am-5pm, flexible working options are available and may require occasional evening and weekend working.
This post is only available to people of a Black African or Black Caribbean background, this is for the purposes of better meeting the cultural, health and welfare needs of the black community in Southwark who have experienced a disproportionately higher risk due to Covid-19. This post falls within the Occupational Requirement exemption of the Equality Act 2010.
